In a press release by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr Akinwale Oshodi, the governor said over  40 hectares of land has already been acquired at Amurin in Owo Local Government area for the project.

According to the statement, the decision to set up a Fish Proceessing Centre is to demonstrate to fish farmers, the art of fish smoking through the use of modern smoking skills.

Mimiko who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr Kola Ademujimi, disclosed that Ondo State is one of the states of the federation that has N1billion loan in its kitties with nine percent interest rate and two- year moratorium for repayment for the development of the agriculture sector.

The statement said, “it may interest you to know that over 3,000 beneficiaries have been trained at the Alagbaka Acquaculture Training Centre in the construction and management of fish ponds, fish processing, fish preservation and marketing.

“Also, the state government is spending over N96 million on the production of five million fingerlings per annum and construction of a feed mill for the production of local fish feeds at the Sunshine Fisheries Limited.”.

Earlier in his speech, the Ondo State Chairman of AFFAN, Pastor Olatunji Obembe, said the body was determined to reduce youth unemployment in the state by raising new self-employed fish farmers and acquaculturists through its activities, adding that the Winrock team of fish experts led by Professor Don Holland is in the state to train about 1,000 fish farmers on modern methods of producing fingerlings and feed as well as brood stock management, among others.
