Ondo guber poll: Mimiko in early lead

Early results showed that the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party (LP) is ahead of his two main challengers from the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Olusola Oke.

 

Mimiko won in all the seven polling units in Oba Ile, won in Akure central and also in Ondo town where he hails from.

The incumbent governor defeated the ACN candidate at his polling unit 6 ward 5 in Owo by slim margin, polling 144 votes against 139 from the ACN and 35 from the PDP.

In Gbogi Isikan Akure South local government ward 3 unit 4, ACN pulled 55, PDP 41, LP 130, Ward 5 unit 20, ACN 22, LP 205 and PDP 14.

Other results from Akure South ward 2 with LP getting 165 votes, PDP 30, ACN 22; unit 8, LP recorded 169 votes, PDP 24 and ACN 43 votes. In unit 3, LP scored 78 votes, PDP 23 while ACN scored 20.

The results from Ondo East indicated that LP scored 76, PDP 37 and ACN 19 votes.

As the results were trickling in, Ondo, the hometown of the governor was agog last night with the expectation of eventual victory for governor Mimiko.

Around 7 p.m, thousands of youths were trooping out and praising God for Mimiko’s victory, not minding the security personnel deployed to the town.

The governor won in all the polling booths. At ward 7 unit 20 and 21 where the governor cast his vote, LP polled 348, ACN 16 and PDP 11.

Also in Idanre and Ikare, Mimiko was said to have won in all the voting units followed by ACN.

Although the ACN candidate lost in his ward, his party won the election in the local government area.
