Mrs Mimiko who made this known at last month’s edition of her meeting with women groups in the state held at the Gani Fawehinmi Arcade ground in Akure, the state capital, said the scheme was part of the government’s efforts to empower women in the state so that they could have working capital for their businesses.

She noted that the gesture would also create avenues for them to make profit and take care of themselves and their families.

According to her, the present Mimiko- led administration has put in place a number of women- friendly policies and programmes to guarantee equal rights in all spheres of life so as to reduce all forms of gender barriers facing women in the state.

The wife of the governor however, lamented that for centuries, women have suffered repression and various forms of discrimination all over the world.

Mrs Mimiko who said that last month’s  meeting also marked year 2010 International Day Celebration with the theme “Equal Right, Equal Opportunities, Progress for All”  stressed that it became binding on all nations to put in place polices and programmes to promote the equality of men and women in all spheres of human endeavours, be it political or economic.

She explained that this year’s theme was therefore a re-affirmation of the United Nations General Assembly’s declaration that, “all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights and that everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this declaration without distinction of any kind.”

Earlier in her speech, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Bukola Tenabe, had commended Mrs Mimiko for supporting the upliftment of women in the state.
