Ondo state government has said that farmers operating in the forest reserves across the state must embrace the introduction of self-identity card by the state government for easy identification.

The state commissioner for natural resources, Alhaji Rasheed Badmus, stated this during a visit to cocoa farmers in Odigbo local government area of the state. 

Addressing the farmers, Badmus said the ministries of Natural Resources and Agriculture was on data capturing drive for farmers operating in government forest reserves in order to keep record of original allottees in the state. 

According to him, it is mandatory for  the  state government to have a data base of farmers operating in government forest reserves across the state to prevent encroachment capable of jeopardising  government’s efforts toward rejuvenating the forest reserves. 

He implored them to continue to protect government plantation, which he said were major sources of revenue to the state.
