His words, “I should seize this opportunity to remind our royal fathers that you have enormous responsibility in a bid to achieving internal security in the state which alone can create an atmosphere conducive to the implementation of the various government programmes for the benefit of all. We are confident of your ability to play fatherly role and sure of your cooperation all the times.”

Considering the enormity roles of the Obas Council, he said the government deemed it fit to fill a vacuum left by previous council by installation of Oba Folagbade Olegbegi, a former lecturer at Nigeria Law School, Lagos. His tenure in office is between 2009 and 2011.

The governor said his administration was prepared to draw from the wealth of experience of the royal fathers from time to time on variety of issues with particular emphasis on traditions, customs and chieftaincy matters that may crop up in various towns and communities.

He described the roles of traditional institutions as many and varied, and having far reaching effects on the citizenry, adding that this accounts for the increasing agitation that the roles be clearly entrenched in the constitution.

According to him, “Council of Obas is as old as society itself. It is a highly respected traditional institution which has built for itself a proud record of loyalty, devotion to duty, steadfastness, and exemplary leadership.”
