The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo State Command, has said 2,423 people were involved in road accidents across the state in 2024.

Sector Commander, Dr Samuel Ibitoye revealed the figures over the weekend in Akure, the state capital.

He said between January 1 and December 31, about 170 people died in road crashes, while 778 others sustained varying degrees of injuries. Among the victims, 31 were minors.

Dr. Ibitoye attributed the high rate of accidents to impatience, overspeeding and reckless driving, particularly on highways.

He stressed that the corps would continue sensitising motorists to the dangers of overspeeding, reminding drivers that “It is better to be alive than to be late.”

He noted that the FRSC regularly educates road users on safe driving practices and stresses the importance of viewing road safety as a personal responsibility.

He also said the command has trained its personnel to better manage crash scenes and reduce incidents through improved fitness and preparedness.

In a related development, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Edo State has confirmed that 14 people died in road accidents across the state in March 2025.

Edo State Sector Commander, Cyril Mathew disclosed this in an interview with Daily Trust, noting that 34 others sustained injuries during the same period.

Mathew attributed the crashes to brake failure, overspeeding, dangerous driving, phone use while driving, and traffic violations.
