The state’s Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, who gave the warning at a meeting with traditional rulers in the northern senatorial district of the state, said traditional rulers should not involve themselves in partisan politics but play an advisory role.

He said, “I want to appeal to you our traditional rulers, that you have no business to involve yourself in active politics. As monarchs, you are expected to be neutral and not partisan.

“As leaders in your various communities, you should make sure that you don’t drag the name of the institution into the mud. Unlike what happened before now where traditional rulers were used by politicians, we are not going to encourage such a thing.

“Traditional rulers are expected to play advisory roles by making sure that governments do the right things for their communities. They should be at the forefront of fighting social ills affecting their communities.”

The deputy governor also urged monarchs to caution youths in their domains not to allow themselves to be used by desperate politicians to disrupt the peaceful co-existence of the state.

“You have major roles to play by making sure that youths in your domains are not used to cause crisis in your domains. As government, we will not tolerate acts of lawlessness from any group of people. That is why you need to call youths in your area to order.”

The Deputy Governor added that the Mimiko- led government is ready to bring meaningful development to the area through projects.

Responding on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Olubaka of Oka, Oba Adebori Adeleye, said monarchs in the state were not ready to drag the name of the institution into disrepute.
