The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) chapter, Ondo State, has commenced an indefinite strike over the non-payment of lecturers’ salaries for May and June 2026.
The industrial action took effect on Friday, July 10, following a resolution reached during the union’s congress held the same day.
In a brief made available to Daily Trust by the Chairperson of ASUU-AAUA, Comrade Bolu Oshodi, the union said the congress reaffirmed resolutions earlier adopted on April 28 and June 18, 2026, directing members to withdraw their services until the outstanding salaries are fully paid.
According to the notice, the action is “total, comprehensive and indefinite” and will remain in force until the university management and the Ondo State Government settle the salary arrears.

The union stressed that its members would not resume teaching, supervision of students, meetings or any other official duties until the salaries owed for May and June are paid.
“The withdrawal of services is total, comprehensive and indefinite until all outstanding salaries are paid,” the notice stated.
The strike is expected to significantly disrupt academic activities at the state-owned institution, with lectures, student supervision, departmental meetings and other academic engagements suspended indefinitely.
ASUU-AAUA also announced that the union’s National Visitation Team is scheduled to visit the branch on Monday, July 13, to engage members on issues relating to the 2025 agreement between ASUU and the Federal Government.
The meeting is expected to provide updates on the implementation of the agreement and offer members an opportunity to raise concerns and provide feedback.
The industrial action has further cast doubt on the university’s academic calendar, particularly the second-semester examinations scheduled to begin on July 20.
With lecturers now on an indefinite strike, the examinations may be postponed unless the salary dispute is resolved before the commencement date.
