A female passenger has died while six others sustained injuries in a road crash involving a commercial bus on Sunday morning in Lagos.
The accident occurred at New Castle Bus Stop, inward Gbagada, along the Oworonsoki-Apapa Expressway.
Eyewitnesses said the commercial bus lost control and rammed into a roadside culvert.
The impact of the crash reportedly threw a female passenger out of the vehicle onto the expressway. In the process, an oncoming articulated truck ran over her, killing her on the spot.

The six other occupants of the bus, including the driver, sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, who confirmed the incident, said preliminary reports showed that the crash involved a Volkswagen commercial bus with registration number LSD 654 XY.
According to him, the vehicle veered off the road and rammed into a roadside culvert along the corridor.
Bakare-Oki explained that the impact of the collision forcefully ejected the female passenger from the vehicle onto the expressway, after which she was crushed by an oncoming articulated trailer whose driver could not avert the situation.
He said officials of LASTMA quickly responded by activating emergency traffic management measures to prevent further accidents.
“In order to safeguard other motorists and prevent a secondary crash, LASTMA officials temporarily cordoned off the entire expressway to allow for the evacuation of the deceased, the injured passengers and the wreckage of the Volkswagen commercial bus involved in the lone fatal accident,” he said.
He added that the driver of the articulated trailer fled the scene after the incident.
“Security men from the Pedro Police Division promptly arrived at the scene to provide vital security reinforcement for traffic management officials and emergency responders while maintaining orderliness around the accident vicinity.
“In furtherance of coordinated emergency rescue operations, officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) swiftly evacuated the six seriously injured victims, including the driver who reportedly sustained a fractured leg and conveyed them to a nearby medical facility for immediate treatment.
“Similarly, personnel of the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) respectfully evacuated the remains of the deceased female passenger from the accident scene.
“Following the successful evacuation exercise, LASTMA operatives meticulously cleared all obstructions along the corridor and subsequently restored normal vehicular movement on the main carriageway of the Expressway,” he said.
Bakare-Oki also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased passenger, praying for the strength to bear the loss.
