One Dead, Three Injured in Lagos Auto Crash

One person died and three others critically injured in a road crash involving a yam-laden truck and a commercial tricycle in the Epe area of Lagos on Sunday.

The truck, with registration number AGL 764 XB, was reportedly attempting a U-turn at the traffic light near Aiyetoro Junction when the driver lost control and rammed into a commercial tricycle.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the incident.

He said preliminary findings showed that the truck, coming from Ijebu-Ode and heading inward Eleko, attempted the U-turn before veering off and crashing into a stationary tricycle marked SMK 127 QR.

Bakare-Oki said the incident claimed one life and left three occupants of the tricycle with severe injuries.

He stated that LASTMA operatives on routine traffic duties responded promptly to the scene alongside officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and military personnel.

According to him, the rescue team successfully extricated the injured victims from the wreckage.

“The FRSC conveyed the deceased and the injured victims to the General Hospital, Epe, for medical attention and necessary procedures, while security agencies maintained order and participated the restoration of traffic flow,” he said.

Bakare-Oki urged relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash to ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
