The centre also identified failure of implantation process as a major factor responsible for low In vitro fertilisation (IVF) success rate.
Speaking during the Physicians Roundtable in Lagos on Saturday, a consultant Gynaecologist and Assistant Director at the centre, Dr. Dayo Ajayi, said IVF is one of the effective treatment options available to address the problem with average success rate of about 30-40 per cent.
He said however that IVF failures are distressing and frustrating to couples and clinicians.
Ajayi noted that endometrial scratching was used for women with repeated failed IVF cycle with good or excellent embryos and also for those discovered to have endometrial receptivity appearing to be the main problem.
He said the process increases IVF success rate by 70 percent and may be one more ammunition in the fight against failed IVF cycles.
Managing Director, Nordica Fertility Centre, Dr. Abayomi Ajayi, said the idea of the physicians’ roundtable was to bring doctors together to rub minds on the latest happenings in the world of IVF.
He said the awareness about IVF as treatment option for infertility was increasing on yearly basis with about 600 registrations recorded at Nordica in 2014 alone.
A Geneticist and Clinical Embryologist, Nordica, Atiba Adedamilola, in another presentation on ‘Pre implantation Genetic Screening (PGS) and IVF success rate’ stressed the need for people to contact professionals in handling their fertility issues.
Esther Odiete, Infertility Counselor/Acupuncturist, said that acupuncture enhanced IVF efficacy.
