In the process, they attempted to set the station on fire but for the timely arrival of Anti-Riot Policemen and those attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) saved the situation.
The police team fired several shots into the air to disperse the protesters.
It was learnt that the crisis also grounded commercial activities at the ever-busy Ile-Epo/Oke-Odo foodstuff market in Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area, Abule Egba area as urchins used the opportunity to break into shops, looting goods belonging to traders.
The protest also grounded vehicular movement on the Agege motor road as armed hoodlums prevented motorists’ access to the road.
A trader who identified himself as Baba Taofeek alleged that the commercial motorcycle rider was shot dead by a policemen on patrol of the area on Sunday.
He said the news of the killing sparked off protest which almost led to the burning of the Oke Odo Police station.
Another source, Tajudeen Amoa, who claimed to be a commercial bus driver said it was the timely arrival of policemen that foiled the burning of Oke-Odo Police station at Ile-Epo.
He said the protesters pelted the station with stones and broken bottle and that they left the glasses and doors shattered.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the protest however said normalcy had been restored to the area.
Adejobi also debunked claims that the station was attacked before it was set on fire.
