A member of a suspected five-man armed robbery gang has been killed by operatives of the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Police. 

The hoodlums, said to be in a Toyota Corolla car, had on Wednesday carried out a car-hijack operation in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, snatching a Toyota Camry (Muscle) car in the process.

The suspects later split into two groups, with three in the Toyota Corolla and two in the Toyota Camry, it was learnt.

They, however, met resistance from the police operatives while trying to escape to Ilọrin, as they chased them to Kulende, Ilọrin East LGA of the state.

According to a source, the team in the Toyota Corolla escaped the police hunt, while those in the Toyota Camry were given a hot chase. 

“However, the operatives chased them all the way to Kulende, Zango area in the metropolis where one of them (driver) was shot in the neck. 

“He lost consciousness and the vehicle ran into an electric pole which broke and fell on some shops and damaged other properties. 

“The armed robber with bullet wound died, while the other occupant escaped. The police later cordoned off the area”, the source said. 

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ejire Adeyemi-Adetoun, confirmed the incident.

“Yes, one of them was killed, but investigation is still ongoing to arrest the rest,” she added.
