The incident occurred along the popular NEPA Road, Isabo, where the suspected armed gang had attacked a poultry cold room. Oodua Trust gathered that the popular cold room had suffered a similar attack in the past. The robbers, numbering five, upon arrival at the premises at about 9.00am, took the busy commercial centre hostage as they reportedly carted away their loot.

But, a swift response from the anti-robbery squad led to a gun battle as the gang was given a hot chase amid gunshots that caused pandemonium in the vicinity.

Eye witnesses told our correspondent that residents ran helter-skelter for cover, a development that paralyzed activities for several minutes in the area. The State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, however, confirmed that one of the fleeing robbers fell to the gun shots of the police, while two others were injured.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up by the police in the state capital with special anti-robbery teams seen mounting surveillance spots at different and strategic locations in the town.

 At Iyana Mortuary, Old Abeokuta/Ibadan, Sapon, Ita Oshin and Abeokuta/Sagamu road axis, our correspondent observed the stop and search exercise, which Adejobi confirmed was in place “to check the influx of hoodlums into the town.”

The State Police Commissioner, Hashimu Argungu, has been, however, redeployed with the new substantive new Police boss to resume last Thursday.

Argungun, who replaced Dapo Ayeni last March, will be proceeding on a course at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos, which is expected to commence in February.
