In an address at the 45th annual general meeting and scientific conference of the association in Kaduna, Adeyemi said many qualified psychiatrists remained unemployed.
“This raises the question, how will the millions of Nigerians requiring mental health care receive optimum care,” he asked.
He expressed the association’s readiness to partner with National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other organisations in the emergency preparedness and management of the emotional and psychological consequence of trauma in Nigeria.
In his speech, Kaduna State Governor Mukhtar Yero said the state’s partnership with the psychiatric hospital was to develop a mental health policy for scaling up of mental health services at general hospitals and subsequently primary health centres.
