Speaking yesterday in Abuja, the CAF/FIFA technical instructor said the victory would bolster the confidence of the players and members of the coaching crew who are presently re-building the national team.

He said victories are good for re-building processes and it would have been counter- productive had the Eagles lost the match against the Leone Stars.

Onigbinde however said the team should not be deceived by the victory as he said it has not got to the end of the road.

“I will say that the result we had yesterday was heart warming at least for a beginning. We should be mindful of the fact that we are re-building. Therefore, being able to win their first match is heart warming.

“But that is not to say we have got to the end of the road. We are about to start. The players and the technical staff must work really hard to make sure they improve on their level of performance”.

Onigbinde said Eagles can continue to play their matches in Lagos provided the team’s coaches can competently handle the fans.

He noted that every situation has its own treatment but if those who should know better fail to do what is expected of them, even if Eagles play elsewhere, the result will not be different from what was experienced on Wednesday.

His words: “Everything depends on how the handlers of the team handle the situation. Even if they played here in Abuja, maybe the same thing could have happened. If the situation is mismanaged, even when the players are cheered when they did not perform very well, it may even have negative effect on the team”.
