Governor Hyacinth Alia, on Thursday, said insecurity in Benue State has reduced, with only three of the 23 local government areas now experiencing minimal security threats.

Alia stated this while receiving the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Makurdi.

A statement by the Government House Information Officer, Kehe Hon, quoted the governor as saying that when his administration assumed office on May 29, 2023, about 17 local government areas were severely affected by insecurity, adding that sustained collaboration between the state government and security agencies has drastically improved the situation.

“Out of the 23 local government areas in Benue State, about 17 were under serious security threat when we came in. Today, only three are experiencing minimal threats, and even in those areas, there is relative peace,” he said.

Alia commended the Nigerian Army and the Federal Government for their support in tackling insecurity in the state, noting that close coordination between the military and the state government has contributed to the improved security situation.

He urged residents to support security agencies with credible information, stressing that communities must see uniformed personnel as partners in protecting lives and property.
