The Assistant Secretary in charge of Finance and Administration, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, told Daily Trust that three delegates wrote to the secretariat to say that they won’t draw any allowance for the conference.
He said the three delegates are Pastor Tunde Bakare from South West zone, Mr Fola Adeola from Ogun State and Malam Kabiru Yusuf, a delegate representing the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN).
Reports earlier said certain civil society delegates have also declared that they won’t receive any allowance for the conference.
But Daily Trust confirmed yesterday that those other delegates have not officially written to the secretariat on their intention not to draw allowances.
“Only three delegates wrote to us so far. For those who said they have declined also, we don’t know yet. We can’t rely on newspaper reports,” Yakubu said.
The delegates’ entitlements, including accommodation, transport and others, have been monetised.
Last Friday, each delegate was paid N1.46 million as allowances for two weeks.
By this, each delegate is to receive a total of about N8.76 million for the whole 12-week conference period.
