The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has stated that an average of 4,901 megawatt (MW) from the available 13,625 MW installed capacity was available on the national grid in January.

In a January 2026 Operational Performance Factsheet on its X handle, NERC said this represents 36% of energy that dispatched during the out of 13,625 MW installed capacity.

It noted an average load factor of 90% showing that 4,421 MWh/h of available capacity was utilized, adding that Ihovbor_2, Kainji_1, and Jebba_1 stood out with strong availability and high utilisation levels.

“The monthly average lower grid voltage (305.52kV) and average upper grid voltage (348.45kV) during the month exceeded the prescribed limits (313.50kV-346.50kV while the average lower grid frequency (49.03Hz) and average upper grid frequency (50.66Hz) during the month exceeded the prescribed limits (49.75Hz-50.25Hz),” he said.

It added that the top ten energy producers accounted for 77 percent of the total energy generated during the month.

The top ten plants include Egbin power plant, Delta power plant, Kainji power plant, Zungeru power plant, Afam power plant, Odukpani power plant, Shiroro power plant, Jebba power plant, Okpai power plant and Ihovbor power plant.
