There is low voters turnout in some parts of Borno State in the governorship election following the inability of INEC to distribute ballot papers in many local government areas.

There was a mistake in the original ballot papers. The logo of Labour Party (LP) was omitted which was discovered late prompting the reprint of new ballot papers in Abuja that needed to be flown to Maiduguri by air because of distance.

Tommy Magbuin, INECs spokesman in Borno State said apart from Magumeri, Gubio, Jere and Maiduguri Metropolitan Councils in north and central parts of the state, all the remaining local government areas are yet to receive their ballot papers for the elections as at 2pm today.

Voters from at least 16 local government areas are expected to cast their votes at internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps in  Maiduguri after they were forced out of their localities by the Boko Haram insurgents.

Magbuin however said with the exception of Gwoza and Askira-Uba, all the local councils in southern Borno have received their ballot papers for both the house of assembly and gubernatorial elections.

There are 27 Local Government Areas in Borno State even as there are fears that if the ballot papers are not provided, many people will be disenfranchised.
