Onnoghen gets FJSC approval for CJN

Justice Walter Nkanu Onnoghen, the next most senior Justice of the Supreme Court has gotten the nod from the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) to emerge as the next Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
He was nominated by the judicial body to take over from the current CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed who will step down on November 10, upon clocking the 70 years mandatory retirement age.
The FJSC, last week, forwarded Justice Onnoghen’s name to the National Judicial Council, NJC, which will in turn, forward same to President Muhammadu Buhari for appointment subject to confirmation by the Senate.
Justice Onnoghen, born 22 December 1950 has been a Justice of the Supreme Court since 2005. He hails from Okurike Town, Biase L.G.A. of Cross Rivers State.
He obtained his Bachelor of Law Degree (LL.B (Hons)) and graduated with 2nd Class Upper Division from the University of Ghana, Legon, Ghana between in1977.
