Onuachu’s double keeps Trabzonspor in Turkish title race

Paul Onuachu maintained his impressive scoring form in the Turkish Super Lig, netting twice in Trabzonspor’s 3–1 away victory over 10-man Kayserispor.

The 31-year-old striker scored a brace just before halftime to secure Trabzonspor’s third consecutive league win as the club continues its pursuit of the top two teams in the title race.

Onuachu rose highest to score his ninth headed goal of the league campaign two minutes into first-half added time, giving Trabzonspor the lead. Five minutes later, he calmly converted a penalty to send the visitors into the break with a comfortable two-goal advantage.

The lanky forward has now scored 20 league goals this season and 22 across all competitions.

His latest strike also extended his remarkable run to seven consecutive league matches with a goal and nine straight appearances in all competitions for Trabzonspor. Onuachu has scored at least once in every match since January 23.

The Nigerian forward has now reached the 20-goal mark in a league season for the first time since scoring 21 goals for Genk during the 2021/22 Belgian Pro League campaign.

Onuachu’s goals have helped lift Trabzonspor to third place on the league table with 54 points from 25 matches, three points behind second-placed Fenerbahce and seven points behind leaders Galatasaray, where fellow Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen plays.
