Ooni of Ife keeps mum on marriage crash as wife confirms separation

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has continued to keep silent on the controversy surrounding the crisis between him and his estranged wife, Olori Zaynab Wuraola.

When our correspondent visited his palace in Ile-Ife on Wednesday to seek the reaction of the monarch on a post by Wuraola in which she confirmed the separation, Oba Adeyeye said marriage is a personal thing and that he needs to maintain decorum.

Speaking through his Director of Media and Public Affairs, Mr Moses Olafare,  the Ooni of Ife said it is premature for him to comment on the matter.

"The issue of marriage is a personal thing and not public matter. It has to do with personal life. There would be an official statement from the palace at the appropriate time. There should be decorum."

Confirming the crash of her 17-month-old marriage to the monarch, via a statement on her Instagram page on Wednesday, Wuraola said “What I can confirm, is that the Ooni and I are no more.”

She continued "I inhale love and exhale gratitude. My journey continues as a humanitarian aiding women and victims of domestic violence & abuse with the United Nations. No matter how much time you’ve invested, no matter the use of media to silence and manipulate, no matter the circumstance, slander, embarrassment, threats and lies: Get out and seek immediate help!”

Meanwhile, a reliable source at the palace confirmed that Wuraola has removed her personal belongings from the palace and that the monarch has silently taken another woman as his new wife.

The source said "Olori Wuraola should have exercise patient. Kaabiesi Ooni loves her. There were challenges and the Ooni insisted that he wanted Olori Wuraola and he married her. There were attempt to resolve the matter but the efforts failed. The Olori eventually packed out from the palace. Now, that she is no longer the wife of Ooni, she should not be addressed as ‘Her Highness’ anymore."
