Oba Okunade also offered prayer for the repose of the soul of wife of former military president, Maryam Babangida who died in California last week Sunday.

In the special prayer offered by the Akire of Ikire, Oba Olatunde Falabi on behalf of the Ooni, he prayed Allah to grant Alhaji Yar’adua quick recovery and good health.

Oba Sijuwade also prayed for peace in the country adding that God should grant the country peace so that there would be development in the country.

Meanwhile, the Ooni has appealed to politicians in the country to allow the wisdom of elders to guide them in the current constitutional crisis which occurred as a result of the sickness of the president, Alhaji Umaru Yar’adua.

Oba Sijuwade gave the advice while answering questions from journalists at Ile-Ife Royal Court as a prelude to his 80th birthday which was held Friday, January 1st 2010.

The Ooni who said that politicians should allow the wisdom of elders to guide them on whether the vice president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan should be acting president when Alhaji Yar’adua was on in a hospital said that they should seek for the elder’s counsel.

According to the Ooni, “although the president is sick and is in the hospital, there is constitutional crisis. We should allow the counsel of the elders to guide us. They have the best experience. We should not neglect them”

Oba Sijuwade who said that traditional rulers were the only unifying factor in the country stated that traditional rulers across the country were working for the unity of the country, “traditional institution is the only entity that binds the country together,” he added.
