OPay has deepened its investment in education and youth development with the signing of new Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with four additional tertiary institutions, expanding the reach of its N1.2 billion, 10-year scholarship programme across Nigeria.

The latest beneficiary institutions include Benue State Polytechnic, Kogi State Polytechnic, Montgomery Polytechnic in Ikere Ekiti, and Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike Ikwo in Ebonyi State.

With this development, OPay’s scholarship partnerships now span 24 tertiary institutions nationwide.

The fintech company said the expansion reflects its sustained commitment to promoting academic excellence and creating opportunities for students from underserved backgrounds.

Under the programme, OPay will award scholarships worth N300,000 each to 20 students per institution annually. The initiative is structured as a need-based intervention, targeting high-performing students who face financial barriers to completing their education.

Over the 10-year lifespan of the programme, the initiative is projected to support hundreds of students across participating institutions, easing the financial burden of tuition and related academic expenses while enabling beneficiaries to focus on their studies.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, OPay’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager, Itoro Udo, emphasised the company’s belief in education as a catalyst for social mobility and national development.

“Education is one of the most powerful tools for changing a life, and we believe every student deserves a fair shot at it, irrespective of their background. Through this partnership, OPay is investing in students who have the drive but need the support. We are proud to stand with them and to keep expanding this commitment across more institutions and more communities,” she said.

The expansion also signals a broader strategic effort by the company to strengthen its presence within academic communities while aligning its corporate social responsibility initiatives with national development priorities, particularly in education and youth empowerment.

As the programme grows, OPay says it will continue to scale its partnerships to reach more institutions and students, reinforcing its vision of a more inclusive Nigeria where access to both financial services and quality education is not limited by socioeconomic status.
