In its ongoing commitment to champion education and empower Nigerian youth, OPay has extended its N1.2 billion 10-Year Scholarship Initiative to 20 students of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA).
Signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the management of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, the Managing Director, Opay Nigeria, Dauda Gotring said the initiative was designed to ease the financial burden on bright but underprivileged students to allow them concentrate fully on their academic goals.
Gotring reiterated that the partnership with the Federal University of Technology, Minna marked a key milestone in OPay’s expanding nationwide education initiative, which had already supported students across various Nigerian universities, saying that as the program grows, OPay remains committed to equipping young Nigerians for academic and professional success.
He also stated that the scholarship support was part of the organisation’s corporate social responsibility to foster growth and opportunity for young scholars nationwide.

“We believe it is good to give back to the society in which we operate. You would see students who are brilliant with good career prospects getting frustrated because of lack of school fees and eventually drop out. So, we have come in a way of supporting such students who are good but lack the financial capacity to proceed.
“At OPay, we recognise the importance of education in nation-building. We are proud to support these students on their journey toward achieving greatness. This is part of our broader commitment to empowering Nigeria’s youth.”
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta said the Opay scholarship would go a long way in assisting students that had no access to NELFund scholarship of the federal government.
He assured that the fund would be judiciously utilised to the benefits of the students, describing the gesture as a big relief for beneficiaries.
Also speaking, Professor Caroline Alenoghena, Director, Career Development Centre, Federal University of Technology, Minna revealed that over 4, 000 students out of the over 22, 000 Student population of the institution applied for the Opay scholarship out of which 20 beneficiaries were selected through rigorous screening including written and oral exams.
One of the benefitting students, Halima Ibrahim, a 200 level student of Mathematics Department, said she had struggled to pay her school fees since she got admitted to the university and appreciated Opay Nigeria for saving her from dropping out of the school.
