I would like to make certain recommendation as well as exhortations to the newly 2,000 Assistant Superintendents of Narcotics Course 15 who passed out from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Academy last Friday at the academy located in Koton Rikkos in Jos, Plateau State.
I am sure that what I want to share with you here had been imparted in you during the training. In any case, there are certain things I want to encourage you to do and resist.
You must purge your mind of corruption with a mindset that the tasks you are about to embark upon is for the betterment of your country. I say this because corruption is one of the horrendous challenges facing this country and has crippled it to largely.
Sadly, your country is one of Africa’s major transit points for heroin and cocaine intended for European, East Asian and North American markets. If not checked, the country would continue to pay the price.
Many people who intentionally or unintentionally use sedative drugs may be easier to brainwash into carrying out illegal acts such as kidnapping, banditry and turmoil provocateurs. You are well aware of the atrocities that occur in this country; seventy five percent of which can be attributed to drug abuse. Why? Because young people who are drug addicts instigate the menace.
That is why you need to be proactive and save your country from this anomaly as you assume duties.
I would also like to draw the attention of the NDLEA agency to caution its staff from the illegal collection of kickbacks from drug kingpins and also provide them with contemporary working techniques as well as motivation to enable them shun corruption.
