Open letter to Governor Mala

Mai Mala Buni, Yobe State Governor

Dear Governor, your government has achieved a lot in the provision of infrastructure and in sectors like security, education, agriculture, which have helped the masses by, among others, creating income opportunities.

Sir, from your first tenure up until now, Damaturu has been in absolute peace. When you came in, you made critical changes, which helped shape the security sector in the capital. Streetlights were one of the things you began fixing and replacing. These streetlights were one of the major things that stopped some of the criminal activities that were disturbing the city. As a result of the availability of streetlights in almost every corner of the city, the security personnel were able to operate well at night, reducing the activities of criminals.

I want to use this medium to call your attention to this issue of streetlights. Some of these streetlights are now not functioning, thereby giving cover for some criminal activities to occur.

Let’s use Old Bra-Bra Housing Estate on Gashua Road as a typical example. Before your government, the streetlights in that estate were all not working, which gave room for thieves to disturb the estate mostly at night. But during your first tenure, the streetlights were fixed and the thieves stopped bothering the area. However, they are now coming back because most of the streetlights that were fixed since your first tenure are not working anymore.

I want to plead with Your Excellency to look into this important issue.
