The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 1 Joint Task Force (North West), Major General Abubakar M. Wase, has said that sustained joint military operations under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have significantly reduced insecurity across the North West region.
Maj Gen Wase made this known during the 2025 West African Social Activities (WASA) of the 1 Division Nigerian Army, held at the 2 Battalion Parade Ground, Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna.
In his address, the GOC stated that the Joint Task Force, working in collaboration with other security agencies, had recorded remarkable success in addressing security threats within the Division’s Area of Responsibility.
According to him, “the Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA have drastically decreased the security threats within 1 Division Area of Responsibility.”
He added that the coordinated operations “have succeeded in curtailing the menace of cattle rustlers, kidnappers and other criminal elements in our society.”
Maj Gen Wase attributed the successes recorded to effective training, professionalism, and cooperation among security agencies, noting that the 2025 training directives for the Division were “effectively executed with high sense of professionalism and regimentation.”
He further urged officers and men of the Division to remain committed and prepared for future security challenges, while paying tribute to fallen personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice for peace and unity in Nigeria.
The Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Uba Sani, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, commended the Nigerian Army for its achievements in restoring peace and stability in the state.
In his address, Governor Sani acknowledged the positive impact of Operation FANSAN YAMMA on security in Kaduna and neighbouring areas. “I am particularly impressed by your achievements in combating kidnapping, cattle rustling, and armed banditry. Your successes have had a profound impact on the security of Kaduna State and its surrounding areas,” he said.
The governor also praised the collaborative approach adopted by the military, noting that “your collaborative approach with other security agencies through Operation FASAN YAMMA has significantly contributed to the peace and stability of Kaduna State.”
He assured the Army of the state government’s continued support and called on troops to remain professional and resilient as they confront emerging security threats in the region.
The WASA event, a long-standing military tradition, marked the end of the Division’s 2025 training and operational activities and provided an opportunity to celebrate cultural diversity, strengthen civil-military relations, and reflect on security gains recorded in the North West.
