Nigeria’s Opposition lawmakers coalition has called on Pro-Wike lawmakers to wait untill their decampment case is decided before issuing orders to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The political crisis in Rivers State took a new turn on Monday as the lawmakers issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Sim Fubara to present the 2025 budget.
The directive was given during a purported plenary session in Port Harcourt, with lawmakers insisting on submission of the budget for legislative scrutiny and approval. The directive is coming just days after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of Amaewhule led faction and his colleagues, directing them to resume legislative activities.
But, the coalition in a statement by its spokesperson, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere knocked the directive given by Amaewhule led faction, warning them to desist and wait till their decampment case is decided before issuing orders.
Ugochinyere insisted that the 48hrs ultimatum on 2025 budget is baseless and act of desperation by sacked lawmakers seeking recognition to undermine pending cases on their illegal defection.
He added that whatever they decide in their four bedroom, Governor Siminalayi Fubara will continue to drive the wheel of governance in Rivers State until the case on legality of decampment of the sacked lawmakers which is presently at Appeal Court is finally decided.
He said, “It’s laughable what an institution has been turned into. Imagine individuals who the legality of their decampment is still in court, directing a Governor to submit the budget for legislative scrutiny and approval.
For emphasis, the case challenging the illegality of the pro wike decampment is being heard at Appeal Court and we are surprised Supreme Court would confered legitimacy on lawmakers whose decampment is still a subject of litigation. To pro Wike group, the sacked 27 lawmakers stand removed having desecrated the Constitution and decamped from peaceful PDP to APC.
“Governor Siminalayi Fubara will continue to drive the wheel of governance in Rivers State until the case on legality of decampment of the sacked lawmakers which is presently at Appeal Court is finally decided.”
