Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Engr. Idris Mohammed Gobir, has accused opposition parties of deliberately exploiting the state’s security challenges for political advantage ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a one-day training session for All Progressives Congress (APC) social media influencers, organized by the Minister of State for Works, Barr. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Gobir claimed that certain political actors were more interested in weaponizing insecurity than seeing an end to the crisis.
“They don’t want the current security challenges in parts of the state to end because they see it as a tool for their future campaigns.
“Deep in their hearts, they hope the situation persists so they can use it to discredit our government in 2027. But they will fail woefully,” the deputy governor said.

Gobir, however, urged APC media influencers not to be distracted by the rhetoric of opposition parties, advising them to focus on projecting the policies, programmes, and achievements of the present administration.
“With the right tools and knowledge, our social media teams can ensure the public hears the truth first—loudly and clearly,” Gobir said.
He acknowledged that the APC had similarly leveraged the shortcomings of the previous PDP-led administration to gain power, but emphasized that the focus now should be on constructive engagement and public enlightenment.
