The National Youth Alliance (NYA) has called for actions aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s democratic space, raising concerns over what it described as challenges facing opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

NYA Youth President, Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas, expressed this in a statement signed by his SA Media and Publicity, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Thursday, April 2, 2026.

“The attention of the National Youth Alliance (NYA) has been drawn to a planned press conference involving opposition leaders and political stakeholders concerning recent developments within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“While we recognize the importance of political dialogue and institutional engagement, we must respectfully but firmly state that this moment in Nigeria demands far more than routine press briefings and political formalities,” the statement said.

According to the statement titled “Official Statement: A Call for Courageous and People-Centered Leadership,” the group said Nigeria stands at a critical crossroads.

“Millions of citizens—particularly young people—are grappling daily with insecurity, economic hardship, and a growing sense of abandonment. At such a defining time, leadership must rise beyond statements and demonstrate courage, sacrifice, and genuine solidarity with the people.

“We therefore challenge both the leadership in power and the opposition to move beyond mere press conferences and embrace bold, unifying actions that resonate with the realities of Nigerians. If indeed the intention is to stand with the people, then let it be reflected through: a peaceful national protest that gives voice to the pains and aspirations of Nigerians.

“A collective call for fasting and prayers, seeking divine intervention and national healing.

“Visible and personal sacrifices that inspire confidence and restore hope among citizens.”

The group said that actions perceived as routine political responses may not sufficiently address the concerns of citizens.

“It is concerning that while political actors often come together around electoral matters, similar levels of urgency are not always seen in addressing critical national challenges such as insecurity and the protection of lives.

“The group expressed the view that Nigeria requires leadership that is bold, selfless, and focused on the welfare of citizens above political interests.

“History will not remember statements; it will remember actions, courage, and sacrifice.

“The youth of this nation are watching. The time to act is now,” the statement added.
