Thousands of orphans, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and other vulnerable residents of Sokoto State have received bags of rice and cash distributed by a prominent philanthropist, Alhaji Murtala Abdulkadir Dan’iya, as part of his Ramadan humanitarian outreach.

Speaking during the distribution exercise held over the weekend at the Sokoto State Zakat and Endowment Agency, Dan’iya said the intervention, which totalled N200 million in cash and 10,000 bags of rice, was to cushion the effects of economic hardship, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

He disclosed that N50 million in cash and 1,000 bags of rice were allocated to five local government areas worst affected by banditry—Isa, Sabon Birni, Gudu, Goronyo, and Rabah.

He said the remaining N150 million and 9,000 bags of rice were distributed among beneficiaries across the other 18 local government areas of the state, as well as staff of the Zakat and Endowment Agency.

Dan’iya further explained that out of the total 10,000 bags of rice donated, the Zakkat and Endowment Agency would distribute 5,800 bags alongside the N200 million cash support to vulnerable groups across the state, while the remaining 4,200 bags would be shared among his relatives, friends, and other associates as part of the Ramadan gesture.

He added that each beneficiary would receive one bag of rice and N20,000 as part of the support package.

Dan’iya commended the Governor of Sokoto State and other political leaders for their efforts toward improving the welfare and living conditions of residents.

The Chairman of the Zakat and Endowment Agency, Malam Lawal Maidoki, expressed appreciation to the donor for his consistent support to the needy.

He urged other well-to-do individuals to emulate the gesture, noting that charitable acts during Ramadan attract manifold rewards.

Some beneficiaries who spoke at the event expressed gratitude for the assistance, offering prayers for the donor’s continued prosperity, good health, and strengthened faith.
