The first batch of the 200 orphans and vulnerable children selected from different parts of Plateau State has departed Jos to commence studies at the Ecole Superieure Sainte Felicite University, Cotonou, Republic of Benin.

The students, who were given scholarships by a charity organisation based in Jos, Zazzaga Foundation, were selected from the 17 local government areas after applying for the scholarship through an online platform.

Speaking with newsmen before their departure, the founder, Dr. Saleh Abduallahi, said the students would be studying for different degree programmes at the university.

He said orphans were selected from each of the 17 local government areas in the state, while 30 vulnerable children were randomly selected across the state.

Abduallahi said the scholarship was for first degree programmes in Arts, Social Sciences and Pure Sciences.

The chairman, Parents Association for the Zazzaga Educational Scholarships, Emenike Mathew Isiwu, called on the government to collaborate with the foundation to boost education in the country.
