Governor Samuel Ortom and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State have condemned the destruction of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) campaign billboards in Gboko area.
Our correspondent reports that billboards belonging to the PDP mounted at strategic places in Gboko town were vandalised.
The governor, on Saturday condemned the destruction the billboards, noting that the act was capable of triggering crises in the area. Consequently, he called for caution on the part of party supporters.
Speaking through his media aide, Terver Akase, the governor stressed that no individual or group had the right to pull down campaign materials of political opponents, no matter the circumstances.
Ortom added that the introduction of electronic voting had strengthened the country’s electoral system, adding that anyone confident about his chances at the polls should canvass for votes among the people rather than attack other contestants.
He urged security operatives to investigate the incidents in Gboko and bring those responsible to justice, to serve as deterrent to others.
