A former Benue State correspondent of the Newswatch Times newspapers, Mr Godwin Okpeke Akor, has been appointed Senior Special Assistant on Media to Governor Samuel  Ortom.
The veteran journalist’s appointment was announced by the governor during an interactive session with journalists at the Benue People’s House, Makurdi.
Akor who has put in over 30 years into the journalism practice, graduated from the University of Jos in 1981 and thereafter became Information Officer in 1982 after his national youth service at Iyamoye-Ijumu in the then Kwara state.
He hails from Orokam in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, worked in the Ministry of Information for 13 years and rose to the position of Chief Information Officer on Grade Level 13 before he ventured into journalism practice in the private sector in 1996. He has also worked in the Daily Times and Vanguard newspapers before he was appointed Assistant General Manager, Publications, in the state owned Voice Newspaper.
After spending one year at The Voice, Mr Akor became a correspondent of the  Champion Newspapers in Benue State before joining Newswatch in 2012.
His appointment takes immediate effect.
