Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has expressed worry over the death of three journalists in the state within a short period of time.

Ortom lamented the unfortunate occurrences with the latest news of Terna Doki’s demise, an ace journalist who reportedly died in his sleep on Thursday in Makurdi.

The governor in a condolence message signed by his spokesman, Nathaniel Ikyur, to the family of Gyuse Doki and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), urged prayers for the profession.

“It is a thing of worry that sound journalists from Benue are dying at the time their contribution in building the state and the nation is needed most. This is a sad commentary for this noble profession.

“Late last year, we buried a journalist who died in Abuja under questionable circumstances. This year alone, and within a very short time, we have lost Oliver Baka, Simon Okewu and now Terna is the third. This truly calls for prayers for journalists in this state,” he said.

Ortom described the late Terna Doki as a seasoned journalist who practiced as a correspondent with many national dailies including Daily Independent newspapers and later served as Weekly Assistant Editor at Daily Trust Newspapers.
