Oshiomhole gave the advice when he received the chairman and members of the House of Representatives Committee on Education in his office in Benin on Tuesday.
He said that there was need for a rapport between stakeholders in the country’s educational sector and the government so as elicit policies that would deal with challenges of the 21st century.
The governor urged the country’s leadership to refocus and promulgate policies that would help secure the future of the younger generation.
According to him, there is need to have stable and quality education at the basic and secondary level to guarantee a solid foundation.
“If it is not right at the primary and secondary levels, then it cannot be right at the tertiary level,’’ Oshiomhole said.
The governor said that the activity of the committee was very significant in addressing challenges that were confronting the education sector.
He said that it was pertinent that government did all within available resources to make the school environment conducive so as to enhance enrolment of children to school.
Earlier, the Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Aminu Suleiman, said that the committee was in the state as part of its oversight function.
Suleiman said that the members of the committee decided not to restrict their inspection to only Federal Government educational facilities and had visited some of the projects undertaken by the state government.
He said that observations made by the committee showed a need for greater funding in the educational sector in the state.
The chairman said that in view of the committee’s observations, it would recommend to the Federal Government to increase the state’s intervention fund. (NAN)
