Oshodi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at an international boxing bout that schools sports still remained an integral part of sports development in the country.

He said the state government would gear its efforts in reviving schools sport toward identification of budding talents who would help the state reclaim its vantage position in sports.

The commissioner also noted that if efforts of the grassroots youths were channelled to sporting activities, it would benefit the state.

“We are making efforts to revive school sports by discovering more talents, who will do the state proud in the future,

“We all know that Lagos used to take pre-eminent position in sports in the country, we will work toward that for us to reclaim our lost glory in sports,’’ Oshodi said.

He also lauded Wale Edun, Chairman Lagos State Boxing Hall of Fame (LSBHF), sponsor of the monthly “Saturday Boxing Show’’, for promoting boxing.

Oshodi also said the state would support any initiative that could help to develop the state’s sports.

He also commended Lagos State boxers who contested at during the international Repton Boxing Club, London, stressing that such exposure should be extended to other sports in the state.

He also said that the state was on course to host the most glamorous 18th National Sports Festival next year. (NAN)
