Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday flagged off the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) at Gongoshi Grazing Reserve, a community under Mayo-Belwa local government of Adamawa state.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof. Osinbajo said the National Economic Council (NEC), which comprises the governors of the 36 states, sat together to look for measures in curbing the farmers/herders crises, thus the birth of NLTP.
He reiterated that NLTP is different from Ruga because NLTP was a planned programme approved by the government and NEC adding that Ruga was a project by the Ministry of Agriculture which the federal government supports.
He explained that NLTP is endorsed by all governors and can only be implemented by governors who have interest in the scheme.
He added that Adamawa has experienced several crises adding that the scheme is a mechanism for resolving dispute in the state.
Also speaking, Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, said the NLTP is a home-based strategy to create ecosystem to seven selected states which comprises of Adamawa, Benue, Kaduna, Taraba, Zamfara, Plateau and Nasarawa states.
He said Adamawa is the first state to endorse and implement the scheme in the country.
He said the visit of VP Osinbajo is the ‘icing on the cake’ to flag-off three bridges, road construction and security operation of ‘Operation Farauta’ so as to bring peaceful coexistence among multicultural people in the state.
