George Osodi, Uche James Iroha, and TY Bello are among indigenous artists expected to lead practical-based master classes at the Fifth Abuja Photo Festival.

According to a statement by the organizer, Art for Humanity Foundation, other experts billed for the week-long festival are Andrew Esiebo, Aisha Augie-Kuta and Obi Somto.

The statement signed by Creative Director Art for Humanity Foundation and Abuja Photo Festival, Osaze Efe, said the festival themed, ‘Boundaries of Reason’ would hold between October 26 and 30 2021 in five locations within Abuja and also virtually.

Efe said the Abuja Photo Festival exists is a platform for young artists to make their voices heard.

“In the last five years, the festival has through its various programs and activities empowered over 1,000 young visual creatives from across Nigeria. The primary goal of the festival is to harness the artistic energy of young people to initiate conversation and actions towards social change. This is done by giving an opportunity to them to gain a broader understanding through activities such as master class training, workshops, mentorship, and image review sessions,” he said.

He said other activities include thematic photo exhibitions where early year artists get a chance to showcase their works on thematic stories but the focus of the fifth edition shall be on outdoor exhibitions in strategic public places within the city as part of the plan to bring visual encounters to a new range of audience and reclaim public spaces for the arts.

“We will collaborate with secondary schools within Abuja to host exhibitions where artists will showcase their work to young audience and engage in artistic dialogues with the students as a way of increasing the awareness of photography for social change among young people,” he said.

Other activities are sisters’ art, seminars, portfolio review and photo walks where photographers will embark to trips to local communities within the FCT to document the everyday life of the people, and images collected are screened by a team of jury to select the most impactful narrative, which will be used to raise funds to support the documented individual(s) or spaces in the local communities.
