The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to provide a detailed account of how the state’s security vote has been utilised since he assumed office.

Briefing newsmen in Abuja on Monday, the Director-General of the Council, Hon. Oluwole Oke, questioned the management of security funds in the state and urged the governor to explain the expenditure of the allocations.

According to Oke, the administration has failed to demonstrate significant investment in strengthening the operational capacity of security agencies in the state.

“Available records indicate that Governor Adeleke has accessed security votes up till last year. Yet, the administration has failed to demonstrate any significant investment in strengthening the operational capacity of security agencies in the state,” he said.

The APC Campaign Council alleged that despite the funds available to the government, there had been no significant addition to security assets inherited from the previous administration.

The Council also described as “worrisome and scandalous” reports that security vote allocations had been used for the operations and honorarium of operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps.

“It is more worrisome and scandalous that the Adeleke Campaign Council is now explaining that the security vote accessed by the governor has been used solely for the operation and honorarium of the operatives of Amotekun Corps,” the statement said.

The APC Campaign Council further raised concerns over alleged reports that operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps were deployed to provide security at a private business facility linked to the governor’s family in Ondo State.

According to the statement, the alleged deployment involved dozens of operatives stationed at Pacific Energy Company in Omotosho Village along the Benin/Ore Road.

The Council argued that the reported development raised questions about the deployment of personnel of the state-backed security outfit at a time of security challenges in Osun.

“The Governor must also explain to the people of Osun why operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps were deployed to protect private business interests belonging to his family outside Osun State while insecurity continues to threaten lives and livelihoods across our communities,” Oke stated.

The APC Campaign Council called for transparency in the management of security funds and the operations of security agencies in the state.
