The Osun State government has commenced the distribution of over 12,000 delivery kits to those it described as “vulnerable” pregnant women in the state.

The drugs are to be accessed free from government hospitals and primary health care centres across the state.

The kits were said to contain items required for safe delivery, and included baby soap, baby towel, sanitary pad, a set of baby clothes, Purit disinfectant, chord clamp, mucus extractor and sterile gloves.

At the distribution exercise of the kits at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo, the state capital, the state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, said the move was aimed at supporting and assisting expectant mothers to access the necessary items required during delivery.

Aregbesola said necessary drugs had also been provided in government hospitals across the state, and that the state government would not relent in giving the necessary support and aid to pregnant women and nursing mothers in the state.

Saying the world was on the verge of population explosion, he advised the people in the state to embrace family planning.

A large crowd of pregnant women stormed the venue to collect the kits.
