The Osun State Muslim Community has commenced the celebration of the Hijirah 1439 to commemorate the beginning of a new year in the Muslim world according to Islamic Calendar. 

Addressing a press conference in Osogbo, capital of Osun State, the 1st Vice-Chairman of the Osun State Muslim Community, Alhaji Mustafa Olawuyi highlighted various events lined up for the the celebration.

The activities include a special prayer for Osun State and the Nation, a Quran competition where memorisers of the Holy Quran would contest and the best among them would emerge while a special Jumah service in which all central Mosques in Osun State would present the same sermon.

Alhaji Olawuyi said a ‘Colloquium’ with the theme “Islamic Ruling on kidnapping and Ritual Killings” would also take place and that informed scholars would discuss on the subject extensively.

He said that the grand finale of this year new Hijirah celebration would take place at the Osogbo City Stadium, Ikirun Road Osogbo on Sunday 24th September 2017 which is equivalent of the 4th of Muharram 1439 AH and that Osun State Governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola would be the Chief host.

Olawuyi added that Dr. Musbaudeen Adelasoye would be the chairman of the occasion while Sheikh Abdur’Rashhed Idris Fasaasi, the Chairman of the Isokan Musulumi of Iwoland would be the Father of the day.

He said that the Chief Imaam of Osogbo land who is also the Grand Imaam of Osun State, Sheikh Musa Animashahun and the President of the Osun State Muslim Community President Sheikh Salahudeen Olayiwola would be spiritual father on the occasion while Alhaja Sadiat Adesola Oladapo would be the mother of the day.

Olawuyi said prominent traditional rulers and top Islamic title holders would also attended the event.
