Muslim members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC)  undergoing orientation programme in Osun State have  lauded the officials of the corp for providing them special meals during the ongoing  Ramadan fasting.
Our correspondent, who spoke  with some of the Muslim corps members deployed to the state after the swearing-in ceremony of the 2016 Batch ‘A’ Stream II ,reports that they earlier nursed the fear that the programme would be difficult in Ramadan.
from observing Ramadan fasting.
They were eventually impressed with the arrangement put in place by NYSC to make them comfortable in  the camp.
They also stated that the NYSC officials, soldiers and the paramilitary men at the camp were mindful of the period of Ramadan and give considerations to Muslims who are fasting, especially on physical intensive exercise in the camp.
Osun State coordinator of the NYSC,Mrs. Regina Iluebbey said her organisation was aware of the demands of the Ramadan
period and hence the need to make  special provision  for Muslim corps members to enable them fulfil their religious obligation.
“Our kitchen has been up to the task. We are providing meals for Muslim corps members before sunrise daily and we
are also providing meals for them at the sunset for ‘Sahur’ and ‘Iftar’ and we have been doing this since they came to the camp and we shall sustain it.
“We allow Muslim corps members who are fasting to determine what they would like to eat wheather for ‘Sahur’ or ‘Iftar’ and we provide it for them
at our kitchen. This special provision for Muslims that are fasting does not affect our normal schedule of meals for other corps members who are not fasting,” she said.
She  noted that this was the first time that orientation programme came up when Ramadan has started and reassured the corps members that NYSC would do everything necessary to make sure that they do not suffer  as a result of Ramadan fasting..
