The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), on Sunday, lamented the release of Osun State local government allocation to chairmen elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress during the last administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

A very reliable source from the APC camp confirmed to our correspondent the payment of the Osun local government allocation to the chairmen elected on the platform of the party.

The State President of NULGE, Dr Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, said the judgments of both the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal have removed APC chairmen from the local government councils in the state and that new elections were conducted, new chairmen and councillors elected and sworn in.

According to him, “We are not politicians, but our work as career officers who are expected to protect the assets of the Councils is directly impacted by this illegal action of the Federal Government.

“This is supposed to be a democracy, and we insist on the rule of law. We cannot be expected to work with politicians who have been sacked by competent courts of law but are being imposed on our state.”

“We wish to state unequivocally that the alternative to the rule of law is what we do not want for our state. On our part, we appeal to all the good people of Osun State not to give the enemies of the state any room to cause crises in the state,” he said.

Reacting, the spokesperson of the APC in the state, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, said the funds were paid into the local government councils’ accounts, not personal accounts of APC chairmen.

When contacted for comment, both the finance and justice ministries declined to comment.

The Director Press at the Ministry of Finance, Mohammed Manga promised to get a response but couldn’t get it across as at press time.

Also, Kamarudeen Ogundele, spokesperson of Lateef Fagbemi, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, said “The AGF does not disburse allocations. For clarification or confirmation, kindly contact the Accountant General or the Minister of Finance.”
