The Kwara Redemption Movement (KRM) on Thursday launched its membership drive targeting 300,000 members in the state.

KRM, comprising of key aggrieved APC leaders who played major roles in the 2019 Otoge movement that swept away the PDP government was floated last year over alleged dissatisfaction with the present administration.

During the event, the leaders unveiled their coordinators in the 16 local government areas of the state with a charge to inaugurate the movement across the councils.

The inauguration was attended by notable political leaders in the APC including former House of Representatives member, Hon. Moshood Mustapha, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, former APC Publicity Secretary Folaranmi Aro, ex-Commissioner Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Lade, and other stakeholders from across the 16 local government areas of the state.

Speaking at the event, the convener and APC leader in the state, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, said the KRM was born to challenge what he described as a failed system that produced the current government in Kwara.

“We are not angry with individuals in power, but with the system that brought them into office. If we don’t confront the system, we will continue recycling the wrong people,” Oyedepo declared.

He emphasized that the movement would only admit members with proven integrity and capacity.

“We are looking for people of character, knowledge and integrity. People who can wait patiently until the food is ready, not those who are in a hurry to eat,” he added.

In his remarks, Hon. Moshood Mustapha clarified that the KRM is not a political party, but a pressure group designed to reshape the political landscape in Kwara.

“This is not about anyone’s ambition. The Otoge struggle gave us victory, but that victory has not translated into real success for the people”, Mustapha said noting that those who benefited most from the 2019 revolution have fallen short of the people’s expectations.

He maintained that the movement has no grievance against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or the national leadership of the APC, but insisted that the governance style in Kwara must change.

“We are not against the President, and we respect our traditional rulers. But we cannot ignore the fact that things are not working as they should. This is why we must work together to change the status quo,” he stated.

Also speaking, former commissioner Alhaji Aliyu Lade and Mrs. Gunu Elizabeth from Kwara North emphasized unity and sacrifice as key to achieving the movement’s goals.
