It is very paradoxical that a child of a popular tailor is made to walk naked in the market square. Obviously, one whose parents hunt is dining without meat, just because the meat is to be sold out.
More often, Nigerians have been overkilled when it comes to fuel prices. Successive governments have promised to make the essential commodity available at an affordable price but all these promises remained unfulfilled.
Recently, the federal government increased petrol prices to N172 a litre, which is the fifth time it is happening in five months.
In my last article similar to this, titled “Minister Buhari and challenge of fuel pricing” following another increase, I stated that it’s obvious that our nation lacked sympathy for the pauperised many.
At this crucial time, we found ourselves with many challenges that poor citizen is not left to be in peace. It is sad that the government is inflicting avoidable injuries on the poor masses. The saddest part of it all is that this is supposed to be the government that the poor Nigerians have had so much faith in.
In a swoop, the pump price was increased to N172.17. This is unacceptable. I wonder what the future of Nigeria stands to look like.
It is time for the so-called representatives to play their roles in ensuring that the people are saved from this suffering.
