Our NASS member’s end of the year output didn’t match our expectations

Well, in modern day politics where transparency and accountability are seen or held to be the core value of good representation, it is equally added advantage for those who are represented to seek to know what is unknown to them or appeared blurred to their understanding.

As we are seeing in the developed countries and those who are crawling to attain the peak of development and like any other proactive legislature in the democratic state, I thought our three times’ member in the House of Representatives will follow suit by seizing this golden opportunity: “End of the year events” to hold a town hall meeting with his constituents, and brief them on the ups and downs he experienced during the course of his primary assignment that they assigned to him to carry out. For example:- The total number of bills and amendments passed? The total number of bills and amendments introduced?  The total number of bills sponsored and co-sponsored? The total number of the constituents’ letters answered? The how many roundtables and town hall meetings held?  How many meetings held with constituents? How many constituents’ cases worked on?  The total sums of N…….. Returned to the constituents?

Unfortunately, our member of the House of Representatives ended his package contrary to the aforementioned steps which is seen as the most all embracing ever in the history of our democracy. How I wish my message will reach the ears of the amiable and indefatigable legislator as his political allies call him.

Though you can’t separate success with failure there is one attempt made by him aimed at training some selected senior secondary schools students on how to answer  JAMB questions through CBT. This is highly recommendable. How I wish this is how things are done since his inception into office as our MHR.
