The National Chairman of Accord Party (AP), Muhammad Lawal Nalado, has said the party will field a presidential candidate for the 2023 presidency, campaign vigorously, win election and take over the mantle of leadership at the expiration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure on May 29, 2023.

Nalado stated this during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party in Abuja.

He explained that the party was building new structures, strengthening existing ones and positioning to take over power because the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has failed to deliver on its campaign promises.

He said the alleged failure of the APC to fulfil its 2015 and 2019 campaign promises has made many of its supporters shift their support base to Accord.

He said Accord Party was also working hard to win some states during the governorship polls, adding that it would be possible through collaboration with stakeholders in and outside the party.

“The NEC is strategising on how we are going to be the alternative party in the country to take over governance. Everybody knows that Accord has been very consistent since we were registered. In Accord we are working as a family,” he said.

But Secretary of the APC Caretaker Committee, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, didn’t answer calls to his phone for comment as of the time of filing this report.
